Entering the House of the Last Cartridge is to be immersed in a unique place that has kept its authentic and moving character. It is indeed in this old inn that took place the glorious battle that gave it its name.Soon after the battle, the House of the Last Cartridge became a museum presenting not only the battle and memories of French and Bavarian soldiers, but also the suffering of the village and its inhabitants. The Troupes de Marine who fought in Bazeilles delivered a particularly fierce battle, one that became a symbol of their bravery and willingness to fulfil the mission entrusted to them right up to the supreme sacrifice. In two days of fierce fighting, 2,655 Marsouins (simple Marines) and Bigors (Marine Gunners), as well as nearly 5,000 Bavarian soldiers fell in Bazeilles.
