Located at the place where 5 October 1918, Lieutenant aviator Roland Garros died aboard his SPAD XIII.
Pilot before the war became famous for beating various records and after completing the 1st aerial crossing of the Mediterranean in 1913.
He enlisted as a volunteer from the beginning of the war. It’s him who will develop the firing through the propeller shaft of the machine, thereby creating the first fighter. This ingenious system allows him to shine brightly in combat. In April 1915, forced to land in occupied territory, he was taken prisoner during 34 months before escaping. After he returned to the front, came and delived his last fights in the region.
